This year there is an impressive line-up of features, documentaries and shorts from around the globe.

If you’re a Beau Bridges fan, he’ll be at Cinema Paradiso on October 23rd for the 5:45pm screening of his new film “Don’t Fade Away“.  Starring alongside bridges in this film are Ryan Kwanten (from HBO’s ”True Blood“), Ja Rule and Mischa Barton. Bridges will be presented with a Lifetime Achievements Award right before the film’s screening with an audience Q&A after the film.

The plot of “Don’t Fade Away” revolves around Jackson White (Kwanten). With looks, brains, and athletic ability, the world’s possibilities seemed limitless. When he came to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the music industry, he was so seduced by money and status that he lost track of who he was. Now, with both his personal and professional lives on the edge of ruin, he’s been called home to care for his dying father. While in North Carolina and Los Angeles, he’ll have to confront the friends he lost track of and the girl he never met.

YouTube Preview Image

Angels, angels, angels, what a fiesta at HBO’s premiere of THE LATINO LIST at The Colony Theatre in fabulous South Beach!  Make sure you tune in to HBO on September the 28th (9pm EST) and 29th (8pm EST) to view this funny, poignant and ingenious documentary.

Directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, acclaimed photographer and director of the three editions of HBO’s “The Black List”, THE LATINO LIST spotlights a diverse range of notables from music, science, journalism, theater, politics, business and government.  The celebrated subjects share stories of growing up Latino in America, how their backgrounds shaped their philosophies and their feelings on a society where new opportunities abound, but challenges still exist.

Director Timothy Greenfield-Sanders is an exciting and celebrated portrait photographer whose work is in the collections of numerous museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, The Metropolitan Museum, and the National Portrait Gallery.  Between 2008 and 2010, he produced and directed, in collaboration with Elvis Mitchell and Freemind Ventures, “The Black List”, a series of three HBO documentaries, a traveling museum exhibition of portraits, a book and DVDs.  Timothy received an NAACP Image Award for “The Black List” Volume 1.

Yours truly got the chance to chat with award-winning photographer and director Timothy Greenfield-Sanders about the project. Check out the interview!  I had a red carpet interview moment with Gloria and Emilio Estefan and astronaut Jose Moreno Hernandez, all featured in the documentary.

Angels, Miss Finesse gives this documentary a 5-tiara rating.  I applaud Timothy for putting together such an authentic piece with such a diverse representation of Latinos.  It was entertaining, insightful, inspirational and real.  Other featured subjects in the film include Maria Hinojosa, Armando Christian Perez (aka Pitbull), Julie Stav, John Leguizamo, Sandra Cisneros, Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch, Dr. Marta Moreno Vega and more.

Make sure you don’t miss this amazing documentary.  Until next time, keep your Pradas on the ground, your list in check and keep on Living Large!

Britney disses Gaga’s kiss

YouTube Preview Image

Angels, last night’s MTV Video Music Awards were scandalous! Lady Gaga, as her male alter-ego Jo Calderone created some not so titillating moments. When presenting Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Awards, Jo went ”Gaga” for Britney and tried for a Spears smooch.  Britney dissed the kiss and gave Jo the cold shoulder claiming, “I’ve already done that”.  Ouch!

Angels, I’ve posted a video of Madonna’s saucy stage kiss with Britney and Christina Aguilera at the 2003 MTV VMAs. Now that’s how you kiss a lady!

Until next time angels, keep your Pradas on the ground, your lip-lock etiquette in check and keep on Living Large!

MOMMIE QUEEREST comes to Empire Stage

Angels, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the movie “Mommie Dearest” the LA Weekly Theater award-winning comedy MOMMIE QUEEREST comes to Fort Lauderdale’s cozy Empire Stage… as the fourth stop on a national tour!  The South Florida premiere of the hit parody will play August 11th through August 28th, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 5pm.

By now you know the story of Christina Crawford’s tell-all about her tumultuous relationship with her famous mother. First the book, then the 1981 movie that became an instant cult classic.  Yes, it’s been 30 years since Faye Dunaway donned those famous arched eyebrows and big shoulder pads making us all go back in the closet and question our choice of clothes hanger.

For the last seven years Jamie Morris’ twisted version, MOMMIE QUEEREST, has had sold-out audiences across the country re-thinking the oft-quoted tale with the simple premise, “What if Joan had really been a man all those years”? Told by an all-male cast of four, this show entertains the notion that Crawford was actually a man in drag, a fact she hid from her fans, her children, and the world. Even when Christina finds out, takes revenge, and writes “Daddy Dearest” it’s Joan who still has the last laugh.

The show has played in over two dozen cities including two sold-out runs both in NY and in LA where the show garnered four LA Weekly Theater Awards, winning for Best Comedy Direction for Christopher Kenney.

Kenney, who is also known to Las Vegas audiences as EDIE, the “Mistress of Sensuality” in Cirque du Soleil’s ZUMANITY at the NY-NY Hotel & Casino, is once again at the helm. He is joined by the original Joan (Jamie Morris) and Christina (Brooks Braselman), both nominated for the LA Weekly Theater Award for Best Comedy Performance.  Morris was also nominated for Best Adaptation.

Make sure you don’t miss this award-winning comedy!  For tickets (only $25 bucks for a great night out), visit www.empirestage.com. Empire Stage is located at 1140 North Flagler Drive, Fort Lauderdale, Fl 33304.

Until next time angels, keep your Pradas on the ground, those wire hangers out of your closet, and keep on living large!

FUNKSHION Fashion Week Miami Beach

YouTube Preview Image

Angels, angels, angels.  I have been drooling over all of the fabulous swimwear, resortwear and sizzling lingerie displayed on gorgeous bodies at FUNKSHION Fashion Week Miami Beach. There are still more fashion shows to come and even a summer sample sale July 20-22 at Collins Park between 21st and 22nd on Collins Avenue. To find out more, go to www.funkshion.com.

So, last night I joined my fellow fashionistas … al fresco… in the glitzy tent.  It was quite the hotspot. The crowd was elegant (and dewey from the tropical heat), eager to see the highly anticipated fashions of Eva Danielle. We were also eager to cheer on 13-year old Debbie Jaques.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Primp Salon and MOMM joined forces to make Debbie’s dream of being a fashion model a reality. She did a spectacular job, keeping up like a pro. She (and the other models) did Eva Danielle’s silky, colorful and flowy creations total justice.

Angels, contrary to the world painted in ”The Devil Wears Prada”, I believe fashion still has a heart.  After all, kindness never goes out of style, does it?  Until next time angels, keep your Pradas on the ground and keep on living large!

Miss Finesse interviews Jai Rodriguez

ArtStreet segment on City Theatre’s SUMMER SHORTS and Dirty Little Secrets

Angels, angels, angels.  South Florida is in for a real treat.  Jai Rodriguez… yes, the “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” is in town and he will be at The Broward Center June 30th – July 3rd. He’s headlining City Theatre’s SUMMER SHORTS (several amazing 5-20 minute short plays in one evening) and Dirty Little Secrets.  In this sexy night of music and stories, nothing is off limits as Jai dishes the dirt and tells all in his late night revue. Yours truly took time out of her busy shoe shopping schedule to chat with the fantabulous Jai.  Here’s what he had to say:

MISS FINESSE:

OMG Jai, I saw you on Broadway in Rent and you had me at “I’m Angel, Angel”.  Angel indeed… I knew I was in the presence of a star.  Welcome to South Florida!  So, tell us about Dirty Little Secrets… are you an angel, or not such an angel in this filthy and fabulous late night
revue?

JAI:

Ha, ha, ha.  Well I’m charming in Dirty Little Secrets but you definitely get to see the naughty side of me.
MISS FINESSE:

I just love a well rounded guy. What inspired you to bring your life story to the stage?

JAI:

It’s been something I’ve been doing for years.   Pop cabarets at nightclubs and live shows are such a huge part of who I am.  I love using pop music to narrate moments of my life.

MISS FINESSE:

How much fun are you having as the host of the City Theatre’s SUMMER SHORTS?

JAI:

Well I’m more of a headliner in a SNLish kinda way. Playing everything from an Israeli guard to a fourth grade girl is kinda a dream come true for an actor.

MISS FINESSE:

Wow, that’s quite a range of characters in one evening!  I had a chance to check out your myspace page (www.myspace.com/jairodriguezmusic)…. honey you sure can sing!  My stilettos are still tapping to the dance remix of your original song “Broken” and I love, love, love your rockesque song “Wake Up Call”.  If you could create your absolute dream CD, what would we hear?

JAI:

Well I keep saying I will record another record aside from the one currently on iTunes but honestly I would need a sickening producer and I’d wanna’ do a hybrid Pink/Robyn sound with dance remixes of that as well.

MISS FINESSE:

Sounds sweet!  So, your adoring fans need to know…what’s next for Jai? Please tell us you’re being considered to host the 2012 Tony Awards.

JAI:

Ha. I feel so removed from Broadway as it’s been a while since I’ve performed on a broadway stage.  I am looking forward to doing more scripted work on tv series like I have this year and of course continue producing TV as well.  Neil Patrick Harris is definitely a great role model for me.

MISS FINESSE:

Jai, you truly are Fab! Thanks for your time and thanks for sharing your immense talent with the rest of us.  I look forward to having a filthy time at your show.

JAI:

Thank you. I gotta’ say South Florida audiences have been so great.  Dirty Little Secrets is such a sexy, fun, edgy piece… I appreciate you helping get the word out.  I can honestly say people
would have a night of music and theater that they won’t soon forget.

Well angels, you still have time to get your tickets to see Jai in both City Theatre’s SUMMER SHORTS and Dirty Little Secrets at The Broward Center; both are playing from Thursday, June 30th – Sunday, July 3rd. Treat yourself to a memorable July 4th theatre experience.  For showtimes and to purchase tickets for the SUMMER SHORTS featuring Jai, visit www.browardcenter.org/summershorts … for tickets to Dirty Little Secrets, visit  www.browardcenter.org/dirtylittlesecrets.

Until next time angels, keep your Pradas on the ground, your dirty little secrets intact… and keep on Living Large!

Dear Miss Finesse…

Angels, angels, angels.  Miss Finesse was asked by a reader to share her thoughts on wedding thank you note etiquette.  It seems as if we are all too busy working or updating our Facebook status to stop and write a personalized note.  Call me old-fashioned…. I love receiving a timely hand-written note in the mail.

SUSIE:

I was wondering……What does Ms. Finesse think is proper “Thank you note” etiquette? I was told that Miss Manners says it’s okay to wait a year to respond to the thoughtful people in your life. How does Ms. Finesse feel on the subject?

MISS FINESSE:

My dearest Angel Susie… Miss Finesse indeed does have a response to your valid question. In the spirit of Miss Manners herself, I feel the bride and groom (or groom and groom or bride and bride) should send out thank you notes with “as little delay as possible”. The only excuse for a delayed, hand-written thank you card would be a 104-day honeymoon around the globe on the Queen Mary. Even then, surely the blissful couple has time to jot down a few kind words to their friends and family who spent the time, money and effort to make their special day just so. On a final note, one should always apply “The Golden Rule” my dear Susie to all things etiquette.

If you have any questions for Miss Finesse, feel free to e-mail your questions to info@missfinesse.com .  Until next time angels… keep you Pradas on the ground, your etiquette intact and keep on living large!
