ArtStreet segment on City Theatre’s SUMMER SHORTS and Dirty Little Secrets

Angels, angels, angels.  South Florida is in for a real treat.  Jai Rodriguez… yes, the “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” is in town and he will be at The Broward Center June 30th – July 3rd. He’s headlining City Theatre’s SUMMER SHORTS (several amazing 5-20 minute short plays in one evening) and Dirty Little Secrets.  In this sexy night of music and stories, nothing is off limits as Jai dishes the dirt and tells all in his late night revue. Yours truly took time out of her busy shoe shopping schedule to chat with the fantabulous Jai.  Here’s what he had to say:

MISS FINESSE:

OMG Jai, I saw you on Broadway in Rent and you had me at “I’m Angel, Angel”.  Angel indeed… I knew I was in the presence of a star.  Welcome to South Florida!  So, tell us about Dirty Little Secrets… are you an angel, or not such an angel in this filthy and fabulous late night
revue?

JAI:

Ha, ha, ha.  Well I’m charming in Dirty Little Secrets but you definitely get to see the naughty side of me.
MISS FINESSE:

I just love a well rounded guy. What inspired you to bring your life story to the stage?

JAI:

It’s been something I’ve been doing for years.   Pop cabarets at nightclubs and live shows are such a huge part of who I am.  I love using pop music to narrate moments of my life.

MISS FINESSE:

How much fun are you having as the host of the City Theatre’s SUMMER SHORTS?

JAI:

Well I’m more of a headliner in a SNLish kinda way. Playing everything from an Israeli guard to a fourth grade girl is kinda a dream come true for an actor.

MISS FINESSE:

Wow, that’s quite a range of characters in one evening!  I had a chance to check out your myspace page (www.myspace.com/jairodriguezmusic)…. honey you sure can sing!  My stilettos are still tapping to the dance remix of your original song “Broken” and I love, love, love your rockesque song “Wake Up Call”.  If you could create your absolute dream CD, what would we hear?

JAI:

Well I keep saying I will record another record aside from the one currently on iTunes but honestly I would need a sickening producer and I’d wanna’ do a hybrid Pink/Robyn sound with dance remixes of that as well.

MISS FINESSE:

Sounds sweet!  So, your adoring fans need to know…what’s next for Jai? Please tell us you’re being considered to host the 2012 Tony Awards.

JAI:

Ha. I feel so removed from Broadway as it’s been a while since I’ve performed on a broadway stage.  I am looking forward to doing more scripted work on tv series like I have this year and of course continue producing TV as well.  Neil Patrick Harris is definitely a great role model for me.

MISS FINESSE:

Jai, you truly are Fab! Thanks for your time and thanks for sharing your immense talent with the rest of us.  I look forward to having a filthy time at your show.

JAI:

Thank you. I gotta’ say South Florida audiences have been so great.  Dirty Little Secrets is such a sexy, fun, edgy piece… I appreciate you helping get the word out.  I can honestly say people
would have a night of music and theater that they won’t soon forget.

Well angels, you still have time to get your tickets to see Jai in both City Theatre’s SUMMER SHORTS and Dirty Little Secrets at The Broward Center; both are playing from Thursday, June 30th – Sunday, July 3rd. Treat yourself to a memorable July 4th theatre experience.  For showtimes and to purchase tickets for the SUMMER SHORTS featuring Jai, visit www.browardcenter.org/summershorts … for tickets to Dirty Little Secrets, visit  www.browardcenter.org/dirtylittlesecrets.

Until next time angels, keep your Pradas on the ground, your dirty little secrets intact… and keep on Living Large!

Dear Miss Finesse…

Angels, angels, angels.  Miss Finesse was asked by a reader to share her thoughts on wedding thank you note etiquette.  It seems as if we are all too busy working or updating our Facebook status to stop and write a personalized note.  Call me old-fashioned…. I love receiving a timely hand-written note in the mail.

SUSIE:

I was wondering……What does Ms. Finesse think is proper “Thank you note” etiquette? I was told that Miss Manners says it’s okay to wait a year to respond to the thoughtful people in your life. How does Ms. Finesse feel on the subject?

MISS FINESSE:

My dearest Angel Susie… Miss Finesse indeed does have a response to your valid question. In the spirit of Miss Manners herself, I feel the bride and groom (or groom and groom or bride and bride) should send out thank you notes with “as little delay as possible”. The only excuse for a delayed, hand-written thank you card would be a 104-day honeymoon around the globe on the Queen Mary. Even then, surely the blissful couple has time to jot down a few kind words to their friends and family who spent the time, money and effort to make their special day just so. On a final note, one should always apply “The Golden Rule” my dear Susie to all things etiquette.

If you have any questions for Miss Finesse, feel free to e-mail your questions to info@missfinesse.com .  Until next time angels… keep you Pradas on the ground, your etiquette intact and keep on living large!

Sizzling Hot Summer Hair

Jo-Blackwell Preston

Hi angels…. summer’s officially here and it’s time to show off your sassy summer hair! I caught up with celebrity stylist Jo Blackwell-Preston who generously shared some of her beauty tips.  Here’s what the SoHo based hair diva had to say about gorgeous summer locks:

MISS FINESSE
Well hi Jo! It was great seeing you in South Beach for the recent Miami Beauty Show. When I think of flawless summer cuts and color…. I think of Jo Blackwell-Preston… and the limitless possibilities. Girl, as a world renowned colorist and educator, you are the IT person to go to for all things hair. I just have to ask you, what inspired you to become a hair designer?

JO
I have been fascinated by HAIR since I was a child. I would get great joy from combing my Italian great-grandmother’s hair and braiding it into a bun from as early as I can remember.
I put myself into Cosmetology school at the age of 15 and was licenced at 17.( I’m 44, so I’ve been Rockin’ Locks for most of my life.)

MISS FINESSE
We’ve seen a lot of fun and trendy colors and haircuts so far this season. What are L’oreal Professionnell’s color trends for the steamy summer months?

JO
Sexy, beautiful, bright blondes and reds! Strong Ombres and killer balyage looks that give us a chance to get our “beach on”.

MISS FINESSE
Sounds sexy!  What’s your personal hot hair fashion tip for the summer?

JO
Keep your hair looking and feeling great with loose, playful, sexy curls, so when the humidity hits they just look better and better. Also keep a set of gorgeous chopsticks in your beach bag for easy and delicious up-dos without the boring ponytails.

MISS FINESSE
Dried, fried and split ends are a definite fashion NO! Any suggestions on how to keep hair looking fabulous, even in a humid heatwave?

JO
Mix a heavy conditioning treament with a little gel to pull your hair up and protect it from the elements! L’Oreal Professionnel has a great instant treatment called Powerdose that instantly repairs and fills your hair with healthy goodies! A MUST!

MISS FINESSE
You’ve been an absolute angel. Hopefully I can stop by this summer for you to glorify this glamazon’s do. xo

JO                                                                                                                                            I would love to have you come to Dop Dop so that you can “get your locks rocked”! With love and light! Thank you for taking time out to share with me!

Angels, next time you’re in SoHo in the big apple, check out the Dop Dop Salon. www.dopdop.com.  Until next time, keep you Pradas on the ground, keep conditioning, and keep on living large!!!
